He was technically sent to Ireland to convert the pagans to Christianity and he succeeded by using the three leaf clover to represent the "Holy Trinity" - which in pagan terms translated well because they believed in a triple deity already. What fortune for him! Green came into play a little later ....In 1798 when the Irish wore green to represent the fact they were rebelling against British Rule...boy doesn't that sound familiar...
